PREREQ.: CDEV 53; CDEV 65; CDEV 66; CDEV 67; This class requires IN PERSON student placement in an approved ECE classroom site to complete 90 hours of non paid fieldwork or 112.5 hours of paid work experience. Students must obtain a TB clearance and pertussis and measles vaccines to work with children. Proof of influenza vaccine or statement declaring you decline to take the influenza vaccine also required. PREREQ: Approval of the Child Development Department ADVISE: ESL 186 or placement in ESL 188 or readiness for college-level English This class has 9 required lecture in person classes on the following dates: And a practicum site at which to complete the work experience. Supervised work experience in youth-serving agencies to make connections between theory and practice. Observation and evaluation of school-age children and youth, planning of group activities, and the role of adults in youth programs will be examined in this course. Advanced content for administrators and directors in effective administration, supervision and management of early childhood programs. Emphasis will be on financial management, governance, data-based decision making, and human relations. In CDEV 89, students apply knowledge learned in CDEV 90 re childcare program management, (e.g., operating budgets, regulatory agencies and licensing regulations, role of the program director) as they examine and discuss the impact of regulations and standards on program quality. Students create an action plan to improve management & leadership and level of quality of a childcare program. They need to know accepted management practices and indicators of quality management of childcare programs. Students learn how to lead, manage, and evaluate personnel and program services. Prerequisites: CDEV 90 and 91

An overview of violence prevention strategies that are appropriate for early childhood programs. This course focuses on developing skills of educators to respond to families and children who experience high levels of stress and chronic violence.

Methods and principles of supervising adults in early childhood classrooms. Emphasis on the role of the experienced teacher who functions as the supervisor to center staff. Explores the head teacher’s relationship to new teachers while simultaneously addressing the needs of children, parents and other staff. This course is required for the Mentor program and for permits.
