College reading, writing, and critical thinking with a major research component. Reading, writing, and research assignments are based predominantly on non-fiction texts.

IMPORTANT: Course theme: James Baldwin and the Language(s) of Social Justice. This course is a HYBRID course, which means that you are expected to attend class in person and complete work online. If you are unable to attend class in person, please do not register for this HYBRID course. This section of 1A is linked to 1AS, a support course that offers additional class time and an assigned tutor. Both sections (CRNs 32395 and 32614) MUST be added together. This class requires in-person meetings and the use of Canvas. In-person meeting information (meeting days, times, location) is in the class schedule. Students will also complete coursework in Canvas, which must be accessed using an internet enabled device. This class is part of CityOnline and is 17.5 weeks.
