In this course, students receive instruction in academic reading and writing, including writing processes, effective use of language, analytical thinking, and the foundations of academic research.

IMPORTANT: This section of 1A is linked to 1AS, a support course that offers additional class time and an assigned tutor. Both sections (CRNs 32402 and 32621) MUST be added together. This section is an in-person class with scheduled meetings at Ocean campus. This section requires the use of Canvas. Coursework is completed on Canvas using an internet enabled device. In this course, we will focus on reading and writing about competition, mindset, and success. We will examine the findings of research-based studies on competition and explore the ways competition can be harmful and the ways it can help us improve, grow, and reach our goals.This class is part of the TRIO Writing Success Project, offering academic and other support for first-gen, low-income students, and students with disabilities.
