Catalog Description

A critical study of wildland fire line safety, fire behavior, fire prevention, fire extinguishment methods, strategy and tactics, Incident Command System, communications, use of fire apparatus, aircraft, bulldozers, hand crews, and analysis of wildland fire incidents. Required for F SC 111, the Firefighter Academy.

There will be three face-to-face meetings to provide an orientation to the Fire Training Tower as well as wildland firefighting equipment. The meeting day(s) and time(s) are Wednesday May 1, 2024 (1000-1200), Wednesday, May 8, 2024 (1000-1200), and Wednesday May 15, 2024 (1000-1200). Locations will be shown in Class syllabus and discussed with students. Students will also complete coursework in Canvas, which must be accessed using an internet enabled device.
