Yajaira Ortega -- Geology Major -- Working in the field
During the summer of 2023, I had the privilege of participating in an enriching internship at PJC and Associates, Inc. in Rohnert Park, CA. As an intern at PJC, my role primarily involved helping out with tasks such as drilling longs, carrying equipment, learning lingo, learning to use equipment, and interacting with other trades. I had the chance to work closely with two different geologists, gaining exposure to various aspects of the geotech land contributing to drilling and compaction inspections.
This opportunity was a transformative experience that has set a strong foundation for my future career aspirations as a geologist. I am immensely grateful for the guidance and opportunities I received during this internship and look forward to applying the knowledge and skills I gained to future endeavors.
Throughout the internship, I had the chance to enhance my skills in: project managing, working with power tools, computer skills, data collection, communication, mathematics, problem-solving, and physical fitness. The hands-on experience allowed me to apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios.
My internship experience allowed me to grow both professionally and personally. I developed a deeper understanding of geotech and gained confidence in my abilities. Additionally, I learned the importance of time management, adaptability, and problem-solving in a dynamic work environment.
