Advanced Medical Surgical and Community Health Nursing

This course explores theoretical content and clinical practices with a focus on current therapeutic treatment modalities and nursing management for advanced medical/surgical patients, including studies of cancers, burns, shock, leadership, and management, as well as heart, respiratory, neurological, and renal failure. Community health nursing involves topics such as home health care, long-term care, rehabilitative and hospice care, as well as disaster nursing.

Maternity and Pediatrics

Presents the principles and practice of nursing care in Maternal and Child Care. Individualized, culturally appropriate nursing care for the new mother and neonate. Health maintenance, disease prevention and common childhood diseases and abnormalities from birth to 18 years old.

Intermediate Adult Medical Surgical Nursing

Study theory in relation to concurrent clinical practices and body systems, including hematologic, cardiovascular, respiratory, and immunological. Disorders related to neurological, endocrine, genitourinary, and reproductive systems are also examined, including diagnostic and treatment modalities, and nursing responsibilities. Core nursing concepts include care of the surgical patient, pain management, and fluid and electrolyte balance.

Psychology in Nursing

An introduction to basic concepts of mental health nursing with a focus on current therapeutic interpersonal processes and problem-solving techniques. Study of the identification and treatment of mental health disorders that may be present in acutely ill medical/surgical patients.

Pharmacology

Introduction to the basic concepts of pharmacology with emphasis on the principles of pharmacology, medication, calculations, preparation, administration, and storage of medications, and understanding of the actions, side effects, and adverse reactions of different drugs.

Clinical and Skills Lab I

Introduction to basic medical-surgical assessment skills as well as the nursing skills commonly practiced for clients with integumentary, musculoskeletal, and gastrointestinal disorders. This course includes the application of theory and practice of fundamental skills in the skills lab and the clinical area.
