March 1, 2021
Dear College Community,
Hope you had a good weekend and welcome to the month of March. We have something special to celebrate this month; it is Women’s History Month!
Our March 2021 Women’s History Month theme is “We Keep Each Other Safe.” With that in mind, all programming is being held remotely in accordance with social-distancing protocols. This mutual aid slogan reflects the capacities we want to be building up amidst this period of global pandemic, heightened political repression and reaction, and ecological disruption. All this comes in the wake of last summer’s inspiring Black-led resistance to racism and state violence. Join the 2021 programming.
We are also pleased to be working in partnership with San Francisco Public Library and SF’s Office of Sexual Harassment and Assault Prevention and Response, as well as to host guests, such as Chanel Miller, Trabajadores Unidos Workers United, and About Face: Veterans Against the War. Respective events are organized and co-sponsored by the Women’s and Gender Studies department, Project SURVIVE, Women’s Resource Center, Queer Resource Center, and Associated Students.
Last week we started our concussion testing protocols for our athletes. We want to thank the athletic trainers and directors for their work on making this happen. Also, the COVID testing for our athletes continues. The tests are being administered by our nursing students and supervised by our athletic trainers and nursing faculty.
Finally, I am delighted to remind all of you that students can access free online tutoring services through a centralized "Online Tutoring" link in Canvas that leads to: City College tutors, STAR-CA tutors, and NetTutor tutors! The Learning Assistance Department offers online tutoring across 10 departments and 25+ subjects. Currently, 24 City College peer tutors and six classified tutors offer online tutoring sessions through the centralized online platform. Students can attend a drop-in session, or book an appointment. To learn more, self-enroll in the Learning Assistance Online through your RAM ID portal, or visit the website directly.
Have a wonderful week!
Yours sincerely,
Rajen Vurdien, Ph.D.
Interim Chancellor
