Dear College Community,
Welcome to the third week of the Fall Semester 2021! We will succeed in UNITY!
Last Thursday, at the first Fall Semester Board of Trustees meeting, our new Student Trustee, Malinalli Villalobos, was sworn in. Trustee Villalobos has worked for years with students and in the community on social justice issues. Congratulations and welcome once again Student Trustee Villalobos! Read his full speech and report.
On August 12, Blayke Barker, PT faculty in Sociology, organized an in-person event and found donors to sponsor the City Cannabis Networking & Career Event at Trellis Workspace. This was a collaboration with the SF Office of Cannabis, the SF BAR Association, local dispensaries, manufacturers and activists. Presentations on the degree and extension took place. There were over 100 registered attendees. Great job and congratulations! Learn more about City Extension.
The Contract Education and Extension Programs team has been preparing for Mayor Breed’s visit to the Evans campus this Wednesday to celebrate CityBuild and its partners including the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development. The outdoor event will be an “open house” format with several of CityBuild’s labor partners and contractors committed to hiring our graduates. The CityBuild partnership has been in operation since 2006 and recruits 50 students per cycle (100 students per year). Learn more about CityBuild.
The Career Services team has launched its Fall Career Services Event Calendar. You can also visit CCSF's main Calendar of Events page and select the "Career" category. Through the Strong Workforce Program, we have recently hired three new Employment Specialists—Brett Berning, Margaret Potts, and Nhi Tran—who are providing remote career services via email and Zoom. Please visit the Meet the Careers Services Team page for bios and contact information.
In conclusion, information will be sent later this week about resuming in person operations and implementing the vaccine mandate by October 1st. I want to thank everyone who is working diligently and collaboratively to make this happen. We are in this together!
In UNITY,
Dianna Gonzales, J.D.
