Dear College Community,
With California in a state of drought, this weekend’s rain was very much welcomed. Hope this morning’s sunny skies bring lots of momentum and a great start to your week. Now for updates!
I am happy to report that last week we got our formal notification that the California State Fire Marshal and the State Board of Fire Services have accredited CCSF as a regional training program. This accreditation is valid for five years! CCSF trains fire professionals for the entire state of California.
On April 21, the Workforce Development Office collaborated with the Outreach Office on the virtual Career Education Showcase. The event featured an overview of CCSF, the website, and the eight Academic and Career Communities (ACC). A total of 205 current and prospective students participated in the main session and the ACC breakout sessions. This was a true collaborative effort among 5 administrators, 10 classified staff, and 36 faculty, including 20 department chairs, who presented over 45 career education programs. Over 545 individuals signed up to receive the webinar recordings and slides. The main session is recorded on YouTube and the breakout session recordings will be posted on the CCSF Career Education webpage.
Counseling is working collaboratively with the Center Deans and will provide counseling support in Virtual Help Counters of both counseling and the centers to support fall registration beginning May 25th - June 17th. Students, as you prepare for final projects and exams, peer and professional tutors are here to help you reach the finish line! The Learning Assistance Department employs 36 student and staff online tutors who help students in a variety of disciplines. All online tutors successfully complete College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) - certified training. Since January, LAC tutors have provided 933 live, 1:1 online tutoring sessions to 190 students. These sessions provided 566 hours of direct academic support directly to students. Learn more or access an online tutor from the Learning Assistance Department or self-enroll in CANVAS Learning Assistance Online.
I wish each of you a very productive and joyful week. Go RAMS!
Yours sincerely,
Rajen Vurdien, Ph.D.
