Catalog Description

Instruction in clinical procedures to include aseptic techniques, sterilization and maintenance of equipment, instruction in and collection of lab specimens, patient preparation for specific examinations, selection of medical instruments for procedures, administration of injections, and electrocardiograms. Charting patient history, vital signs and progress notes in medical records. Instruction in medical calculations, prescriptions, and commonly prescribed medications.

Section Notes

MED 49 is an in-person class which meets on Wednesdays from 8:10am to 3:00pm. Students are required to purchase a uniform and batch for medical assisting and provide proof of immunization from Hepatitis B to participate in injection procedures. This course is a tech-enhanced course and requires the use of Canvas. Some coursework is completed on Canvas using an internet-enabled device.

Requisites

PREREQ: BIO 106 and HIT 50A Recommended Preparation, Elementary Algebra or higher
