Catalog Description

In this course, students learn and apply foundational rhetorical theories and techniques of public speaking in a multicultural democratic society. Students discover, develop, and critically analyze ideas in public discourse through research, reasoning, organization, composition, delivery to a live audience and evaluation of various types of speeches, including informative and persuasive speeches.

Section Notes

This class requires live online meetings and the use of Canvas with no required in-person meetings. Live online meetings require the use of CityZoom, Zoom's web conferencing platform in Canvas, using an internet enabled device with a camera and microphone. Students will complete coursework in Canvas and arrange to present speeches to a live audience of peers or classmates. This class is part of CityOnline and is 8 weeks.
