Catalog Description

Introduction to ethical and legal issues in counseling people with substance use disorders. Study frameworks for addressing ethical and legal issues, including a variety of socio-cultural models, and develop an understanding of laws, code of ethics, and client rights. The relationship between personal values and professional behavior will be explored along with an introduction to client-centered counseling and practice.

Section Notes

This class requires in-person meetings, live online meetings and the use of Canvas. Coursework on Canvas starts prior to the first in-person and/or Zoom meeting. In-person meetings will take place on select Wednesdays: 10/1, 10/15, 10/29, 11/5, 11/19, 12/3, 12/17 from 4:10-7pm at Ocean Campus. Live online meetings take place on select Wednesdays: 10/8, 10/22, 11/12, 11/26, 12/10 from 4:10-6pm and require the use of CityZoom, Zoom’s web conferencing platform in Canvas, using an internet enabled device.
